Mr. Selfridge Portrait Quilt (with free templates!)

I made this Mr. Selfridge portrait mini quilt for my BBC Masterpiece Mini Quilt Swap partner. I’m pretty happy with how it came out and I thought I’d share the templates in case anyone else wanted to make one.  It doesnt matter what size you print it, though I recommend really no smaller than 11 x 17 as the beard edges tend to get pretty thin.

I found it is easiest to get some tracing paper, trace your templates, loosely cut around the templates and use some removable glue stick (like what you use for hexies and paper piecing) and attach the template to your fabric. use small sharp scissors (applique scissors work great) and cut the tracing paper and your fabric with the templates. Layer them using the picture as a guide. you can glue the pieces down and then sew around the edges as you go. Add details as you want for lapels, pockets, buttons etc.

Have fun with special stitches on your machine, or embroidery thread for the watch chain.  It’s a great way to use up small bits of fabric. Post in the comments if you have any questions!
